The village of Thoralby nestles onto the side of a hill where the road takes you over from broad, magnificent Wensleydale into the intimate and timeless beauty of Bishopdale.

Directions

From the A1 northbound

Leave the A1 at Leeming Bar onto the A684 and follow signs for Bedale. In Bedale turn right and continue on the A684 through Crakehall, Patrick Brompton and Constable Burton to Leyburn. At Leyburn turn left at the mini roundabout opposite the Bolton Arms. *Continue on the A684 through Wensley, West Witton and Swinithwaite before passing Temple Farm on your left. Then choose one of the following routes:

  1. Turn next left onto the B6160 and after approximately 2¾ miles, turn right by the Old School Bunkhouse. Go over the hump-backed bridge and The Old Barn is the first on your right. Parking is to the rear of the property, through the archway.
  2. Pass the left turn onto the B6160 and continue straight on towards Aysgarth passing the road to Aysgarth Falls and the Palmer Flatt Inn on your right. Turn left at Aysgarth Garage.
    **Continue up over the hill and drop down into Thoralby. Continue slowly through the village and down the hill. As you are leaving the village you will see the archway of The Old Barn right in front of you where the road swings sharply to the right. Drive in through the arch to park at the rear.

From the A1 southbound

Leave the A1 at Scotch Corner and take the Richmond exit from the roundabout. Go through Richmond towards Leyburn. In Leyburn town centre, continue straight across the mini roundabout. Continue from * above.

From the M6 (Junction 37)

Follow the A684 through Sedbergh, Hawes, Bainbridge and Worton to Aysgarth. As you leave the village of Aysgarth, bear right at Aysgarth Garage and then continue from ** above.

From Skipton and the south

Follow the B6160 from Skipton through the magnificent landscape of Wharfedale, passing through Threshfield, Kettlewell, Starbotton, Buckden and Cray. Leave Wharfedale via Kidstones Pass and drop down into Bishopdale, where the road follows Bishopdale Beck. Approx 150 metres after you pass the Street Head Inn on your left, turn left to Thoralby. Go over the hump-backed bridge and The Old Barn is the first on your right. Parking is to the rear of the property, through the archway.
